The Canine Connection

Helen escaped the earthquake that killed her brother with only the loss of her sight. She was assigned a seeing eye dog and, although she learned the commands, she formed no bond and withdrew further into herself daily. That is, until one night when a siren raced by her window, her dog, Odin, howled and she raised her own head and howled in agony along with the siren and dog. With tears running down her cheeks she felt something cold and wet touch her fingers. Resting her hand on the strong bones of Odin's head, she whispers, "We'll be all right now."
