Story Summary
Jamie can't wait to quit school and go to work in the Esplanade Coal Mine in Nanaimo, British Columbia, like his dad and his dad before him. But his mom wants him to get an education and have nothing to do with the mines. Unfortunately her fears are realized when Jamie's dad is killed in an explosion at the mine.
