Story Summary
Peace talks had started after the Battle of Yorktown but loyalists, along with Mohawk leader Joseph Brant, started to attack settlements. Washington called for recruits to squelch the attacks. Among the recruits by a teenage girl named Deborah Samson, disguised as a man and renamed Robert Shurtliff. Deborah successfully maintained her disguised and fought valiantly as a patriot. After the war and revealing her true identity she continued to lecture on why she had done what she did. Many criticized her and demanded an apology but she remained unapologetic and proud of her service.
