The Secret Elephant of Harlan Kooter

The first two chapters from a novel in which Harlan Kooter, the smallest kid in school, desperately wants to go to the circus to see the elephants. But the circus is expensive and he and his mom are poor. That very night, after the circus has left town, Harlan finds a stranger in his garage, a huge, gray stranger with a trunk.
