Story Summary
In a China not unlike our own, Fat-Choy, chief magistrate of Chai-sang, confiscates a bronze bowl from a beggar only to find that each day double the number of gold coins appear in it. What would seem the best of fortune turns to misfortune when he can't explain his wealth to the inspector general and is stripped of his rank.
