Story Summary
Young Matajuro desperately wants to be a Kendo master like his father but shows no skill. After his father suggests that perhaps he should take up poetry, Matajuro leaves to study with Banzo, the greatest Kendo master in all of Japan. Although impatient with Banzo's method of teaching, he does learn and returns after only a few years to make his father proud.
