She is her confectioner father's masterpiece - a girl, living, breathing and beautiful and completely made of sugar. But when she fails to please the Emperor, she is hung on the wall, abandoned, until in her old age the butler takes pity and sets her free. Retreat to the forest where she builds the only house she knows - gingerbread, gumdrop and candycane - and sits, alone, until she hears footsteps - a boy and girl?
