Catching Rays

While sixth grader, Wendy is setting up an experiment to prove that the intensity of light diminishes over distance, her best friend Rupert is mapping the night sky. Both are trying to win one of a limited number of children's slots on the first colonizing starships to leave earth. But when they combine their skills they discover a mysterious dot in the night sky that can only be the first alien spaceship to arrive on Earth.
