Really, Truly, Reilly

Reilly, a small black dog with one black eye and one brown, escapes his cruel master on Christmas Eve. But in his attempts to find a new home, he is repeatedly rejected until Tim Merryweather, a poor fiddler, discovers Reilly, nearly frozen on his front steps. Having no Christmas present for their son, Tim and his wife decide to give Reilly a home and their son, Jo-John the best Christmas ever.
