One of the few stories John Wideman ever wrote for children, this is a touching story of a boy who never knew his uncle Eugene - killed on Guam - but finds an old pair of Eugene's shoes under a bed. The soft feel and smell brings the boy closer to the uncle everyone refused to talk about.
