Strangers on Horseback

When a nomadic horde of strangers arrive with the women riding like men, one of the young women sees potential in a young slave who is asked to see to their needs. She convinces her aunt to buy the boy's freedom. But when offered his freedom, the boy begs they spend the money to free his horse instead, feeling that he is meant for more than walking in endless circles to grind barley. Milon's selflessness is rewarded in ways he dared not even dream.
