In a distant future, when pets have been eradicated and smog keeps people in most days, young Becca is struggling with her school project a, cuddly robotic pet. When she hears a scratch at the window, she finds, to her surprise, a live kitten. Bringing the kitten to school as her science project, she makes a deal with her nervous, pill-popping teacher.
